Robotics
Standard

AIRI is developing a comprehensive standard for assessing competency in the governance, control, and responsible deployment of autonomous robotic systems. This standard is currently under development.

Status: To Be Announced

Standard Under Development

AIRI's Robotics Standard is currently in the research and development phase. Our team of experts is working to establish rigorous, internationally aligned benchmarks for assessing competency in the governance, operation, safety, and control of autonomous robotic systems.

The full standard, including competency frameworks, assessment criteria, and implementation guidance, will be published in due course. Please check back for updates or contact us to express interest in contributing to the development process.

Anticipated Areas
of Coverage

While the full standard is yet to be published, AIRI anticipates that the Robotics Standard will address the following broad areas of competency. These areas are indicative and subject to revision during the development process.

Area 01

Safety and Risk Governance

Standards for assessing competency in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks associated with autonomous robotic systems in operational environments.

Area 02

Technical Control Competency

Benchmarks for the technical knowledge and skills required to operate, monitor, and intervene in robotic systems across industrial, service, and research contexts.

Area 03

System Design and Integration

Frameworks for evaluating competency in the design, integration, and deployment of robotic systems within complex sociotechnical environments.

Area 04

Ethical and Regulatory Compliance

Standards addressing the ethical, legal, and regulatory dimensions of robotic system deployment, including accountability, transparency, and human oversight.

The Imperative for
Robotics Governance

Autonomous robotic systems are increasingly deployed across critical sectors — healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, defence, and public services. As these systems become more capable and autonomous, the need for robust governance frameworks and competency standards becomes ever more urgent.

AIRI's Robotics Standard will provide the first internationally recognised framework for assessing whether individuals and institutions possess the knowledge, skills, and values required to govern and control robotic systems safely, ethically, and effectively.
